Dear friends and readers,
Does thinking about climate change make you anxious, nervous, angry or depressed?
If so, you aren’t alone. Climate emotions can be overwhelming, and many of us grapple with a mix of feelings on a daily basis.
To help our community, local therapist Brittany Rivers, LMHC, and I will be giving a presentation on “Mental Health and Climate Change” at The Lynx, on Monday, Sept. 2, as part of the Gainesville Reads program.
Please join us at this free, in-person, interactive event at Gainesville’s beloved indie bookstore. The video will be shared on The Lynx’s Instagram afterward.
By the end of our one-hour, interactive event, you will:
- Understand why it is crucial to process and channel your feelings about environmental change (and recognize the dangers of ‘toughing it out”);
- Identify your personal climate emotions on the “wheel”;
- Recognize the unique threats that climate change poses to the mental health of young people and environmental advocates;
- Learn ways to process and channel your feelings to empower yourself and help the planet;
- Have the opportunity to connect with the Gainesville Climate Café, a new community group for emotional support.
