Barbara Drake-Vera Joins AlzAuthors

I am excited to announced that I’m joining forces with an author’s group that does so much to help caregivers of family members with Alzheimer’s.

Last week, I received word from author/advocate Jean Lee, inviting me to become part of the nonprofit group AlzAuthors. This is a global community of authors writing about Alzheimer’s and dementia from personal experience to light the way for others.

“AlzAuthors was created for caregivers by caregivers who understand,” notes the website. “We offer hundreds of trusted Alzheimers and dementia resources to empower and support you on your caregiving journey. You are not alone!”

I was honored and delighted to accept.

AlzAuthors offers a bundle of resources to support caregivers. Their website features a curated library of 350+ contemporary memoirs, novels and nonfiction books about caregiving for those with dementia and mild cognitive impairment (MCI).

AlzAuthors also produces a regular podcast launched by Marianne Sciucco, who interviews authors and shares their insights in order to “break the silence and stigma surrounding one of the most prevalent diseases of our time, impacting 50 million people globally, along with their caregivers and loved ones,” she says.

My book and blog post will soon be on their site, and I’ll be interviewed for their podcast in the next few months. I’m looking forward to that interview because I know the hosts and I share commonalities of being both writers and former caregivers, and that will facilitate the exchange of ideas.

I’m especially excited to join AlzAuthors now because it’s about to reach an even wider circle of readers and listeners.  This week, the Mayo Clinic Connect website featured AlzAuthors as one of the many resources available to those impacted by  MCI and dementia.

Stay tuned for more news about me and the AlzAuthors tribe.
