Oh, joy of joys. I am launching MELTED AWAY at Books & Books, in Coral Gables, on April 10, 7 p.m.
It’s a free launch party, which means there will be a reading and slideshow by yours truly, a book sale and signings (of course), refreshments and general merriment.*
The event is free and open to the public. Please RSVP here if you plan to attend. (I need to know how much wine and cheese to set by.)
*Why merriment?
Miami is my literary home, as I describe in MELTED AWAY. My closest friends live there, and it was on Miami Beach in the early 1990s that I reinvented myself as a creative writer, after having spent five years as a magazine editor in New York.
Books & Books played a seminal role in that transformation. I was a bookseller at the original Coral Gables location of Books & Books, and it was there that I was privileged to hear readings by some of the world’s finest authors and to dream of one day having my books on its shelves.
Later, I served for six years as the staff writer of the Miami Book Fair — founded and run by B&B’s owner Mitchell Kaplan — and still later, I wrote the B&B newsletter, for a year or so.
I left Miami behind in 2001 to move to North Central Florida, but it serves as a touchstone for me every time I return to South Florida.
It is an honor and privilege to launch MELTED AWAY there.
